CEBU (UPDATE)—President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday urged an official of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to resign, citing alleged corruption, but he did not identify the person by name.
Duterte said he will not tolerate irresponsible and unreliable government employees.
"Ang DPWH nga assistant secretary na akong brod sa law school, ako pong gipa-resign," he said in a speech at the Alegria oil field in Cebu.

Duterte, meanwhile, reiterated that he prefers to have a joint development and exploration project with China than to declare war.
" ‘Pag pinilit mo, there will be trouble. O ikaw, kamong mga Chinese, what does it mean to you? O ‘di gyera," he said.

He said that China has helped the country in so many ways, one of which is the first on-shore oil and gas project in Alegria, Cebu.
Duterte said the project, currently operated by the China International Mining Petroleum Co. Limited, will open bigger opportunities to residents in Alegria and Cebu province as a whole.
“You have to spend your money properly, infrastructure, improve the living condition, getting somebody into a gainful employment,” he said.
