MANILA – A senator said Thursday that he and his colleagues are having second thoughts about supporting Social Welfare and Development Secretary Judy Taguiwalo’s confirmation.
According to Senator JV Ejercito, as he has reservations about backing the activist at the Commission on Appointments, it is likely that his colleagues also have the same concerns.
The CA will possibly talk about the confirmation of Taguiwalo and Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial on Wednesday next week, he said.
Agrarian Reform Secretary Rafael Mariano’s confirmation might not be tackled next week.
The confirmation hearings of Taguiwalo, Ubial, and Mariano were postponed by the CA after lawmakers rescheduled their deliberations for the third time.
On Wednesday, Taguiwalo said in a statement posted on Facebook that the postponement of her confirmation hearing is a “a kind of torture.”
"This is a form of torture that I am being subjected to by the CA and its members. I am very willing to submit to their questioning and answer all of them," she was quoted as saying in a statement posted on her Facebook page.
"It is not clear as to why the CA should continue to delay this process of confirmation or non-confirmation if such is their wish. What is clear is that all this has the effect of torture on me," she said.
