MANDAUE CITY—The driver of a 10-wheeler truck will face charges after accidentally running over a 14-year-old girl here, Thursday morning.
The girl died in the incident.
Surveillance footage from the Mandaue City command center showed the child being run over by the truck on J.P. Rizal Street, Barangay Mantuyong. The footage also showed another woman falling under the truck, and a man helping the child away from the vehicle.
According to the Mandaue traffic enforcement agency, the teenager, Jene Rose Rota, was walking with her grandmother, Cresencia Collamat, and grandfather Jesus Collamat.
Glen Antigua, chief of the agency, said the three crossed the street while the stoplight was red, but were still crossing when the light turned green. They did not use the pedestrian lane, he said.
The girl was declared dead on arrival by physicians at the Mandaue City District Hospital, while her grandparents sustained wounds and bruises.
Truck driver Clint Tyron Carbellido said he did not see the three victims crossing the road.
He will be facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, and multiple physical injuries.
