MANILA - The Liberal Party on Friday asked the Commission on Elections to disclose the location of some nearly 2,000 defective vote counting machines and SD cards used in the midterm elections.

The opposition party also asked the poll body to release the audit and system logs of the transparency server, and the technical report that would explain the 7-hour delay in the transmission of votes to the said server.

“The Liberal Party humbly beseeches this Honorable Commission’s consideration in order to afford the Filipino electorate of that utmost transparency and accountability required by the Constitution,” the party said in its manifestation received by the Comelec on May 17.

The petition was sent to the poll body 4 days after the glitch cast doubt on the credibility of the midterm elections.

All senatorial candidates under opposition slate Otso Diretso, a Liberal Party-backed coalition, failed to clinch a Senate seat as of 3:28 p.m.

Seven of the slate’s 8 candidates have conceded defeat except for reelectionist Bam Aquino who dangles 2 places below the senatorial race’s 12th and final spot.

The Otso Diretso would continue to hope for Aquino’s “miracle” win until the last vote is canvassed, the slate’s campaign manager and Libera Party president Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan earlier said.

Most of the SD cards in Aquino’s bailiwick Tarlac were defective, Vice President Leni Robredo’s spokesperson Barry Gutierrez noted in a press conference a day after the elections.

"We're not saying na may deliberate conspiracy dito na ginagawa pero may mga tanong na dapat sagutin ang Comelec," he said.

The vote canvassing is “accurate” despite the 7-hour transmission delay, veteran election lawyer and Otso Diretso candidate Romulo Macalintal earlier said.

Macalintal was the first Otso Diretso bet who conceded defeat a day after the polls.

"Wala akong duda ng ganun kasi imposible na magkaroon ng pagmamaniobra sa national pagkatapos sa local, hindi mangyayari," he said in an interview on DZMM's Failon Ngayon.

(I don't have those doubts because it is impossible to manipulate the results on the national level if there were no irregularities on the local level.)

"Hindi din naman nag-iiba sa mga resulta na ipinadala sa mga local candidates," he said.

(There is no discrepancy in the results sent to local candidates.)
