MANILA - Former Health Sec. Janette Garin was proclaimed as Iloilo 1st district representative, Friday, replacing her husband who was embroiled in a mauling incident in January.
The former health chief bagged a landslide victory with 121,503 votes, while her rival Gerardo Flores got 27,658.
At least 30 complaints over alleged Dengvaxia-related deaths were filed against Garin.
The former Health Secretary had said the anti-dengue vaccines were procured at a time when "all pointed to its safety and efficacy."
If convicted, Garin could face up to 6 years in prison for each of the accusations.
Garin's husband, outgoing Iloilo 1st district Rep. Richard Garin, allegedly handcuffed, punched, kicked and spat on a policeman at the Guimbal town plaza after the enforcer failed to file charges against the son of a councilor who figured in a scuffle.
