A new novel coronavirus infection was confirmed in Cotabato City on Friday after all COVID-19 patients in the area were reported to have recovered.

In a statement, the Department of Health Region 12 office identified the new patient as a 26-year-old man, who has been in isolation and in stable condition.

According to DOH-12 regional director Dr. Aristides Tan, the patient's travel history is being investigated to determine how he acquired the virus, as there have been no cases of COVID-19 in Cotabato City since April 8.

The city earlier had 6 confirmed cases of COVID-19, all of whom have recovered.

Cotabato City Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi said mass testing will be conducted soon in all barangays.

On May 16, the city will shift to a "loosened" general community quarantine, along with other areas under strict enhanced community quarantine with approval from the national government.

Due to the new COVID-19 infection, Cotabato City officials are appealing to residents to adhere to existing guidelines and preventive measures to contain the spread of the disease.
