MANILA - A fourth class cadet at the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) died Wednesday after collapsing during a training exercise inside Camp General Mariano N. Castañeda in Silang, Cavite.
He was identified as 21-year-old Al-Rasheed Pendatun Macadato who was only 10 days into the summer training program.
The PNPA, in a statement released Wednesday, said Macadato collapsed during a run Tuesday afternoon and was brought to Qualimed Hospital in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
Macadato passed away Wednesday morning. The academy said the attending physician has ruled out hazing as cause of death.
PNPA maintained that Macadato underwent the same training program used in previous years. The hot weather is currently affecting new cadets who were required to drink plenty of water.
Macadato's remains were brought early Thursday to his hometown in Kalilangan, Bukidnon.
Police Brig. Gen. Jose Chiquito Malayo, director of PNPA, said they will provide assistance to Macadato's family and will look into possible lapses in the training program.
