MANILA - Relatives of slain officials in Cebu won respective posts in their hometowns in the midterm elections held Monday.
In San Fernando town, Mayor Lakambini "Neneth" Reluya was reelected as mayor after she got 22,294 votes, based on partial and unofficial results.
Her opponent, Ruben Feliciano, got 15,567 votes.
Reluya's son, Ricci, will be taking over as vice mayor after his father, Nonoy, won with 19,094 votes.
Neneth survived an ambush last January that killed her husband, Nonoy, who was barangay chairman of Panadtaran.
Meanwhile, in Ronda town, the brother and daughter of slain mayor Mariano Blanco III won mayor and councilor, respectively.
Terrence Blanco will sit as the town's new mayor after receiving 6,889 votes.
His niece, Ann Marie, also topped the council race with 6,376 votes.
Mariano was shot dead by unidentified men inside the town hall in September 2018.
Blanco was stripped of authority over local police in 2017 for his alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.
He was also among the 3 local chief executives who were not invited to a meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte in Cebu last May. Duterte is currently in Israel for a 4-day visit.
Blanco's nephew, Ronda Vice Mayor Jonah John Ungab, was killed in February 2018.
