MANILA – Sen. Manny Pacquiao on Thursday said running for a higher post in 2022 is not yet on his mind.

Pacquiao said he would first like to focus on solving the country’s problems before thinking of running for a higher position in 2022, when President Rodrigo Duterte steps down.

“Wala pa sa isip ko 'yan. Hindi ako nag-iisip ng ganyan, ang sa'kin bilang senador, ano ang magawa ko. Ang problema ng taumbayan natin, ang kailangan ma-solusyonan,” he said in a press briefing when asked about the possibility of running alongside Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, who is rumored to be gunning for the country’s top post.

(That’s not yet on my mind. What's on my mind is what I can do as a senator. The problems of our countrymen and our country must be addressed and solved.)

Pacquiao, who is on his first term as senator, said he is eligible to seek a second term in 2022. This elections, he served as campaign manager for the President's party PDP-Laban.

Prior to joining the Senate, the boxing champ served as representative of Sarangani from 2010 to 2016.
