MANILA- The province of Albay in Bicol has completed the distribution of the first tranche of cash aid to all qualified beneficiaries in the area, 2nd District Rep. Joey Salceda said Friday.

Some 246,000 families in Albay received subsidies as part of the government's social amelioration program for the coronavirus crisis, Salceda said. A P1.127 billion budget was allotted for the province, he added.

"Yung mga issue na lang dito ay 'yung mga hindi napili at may proseso naman po para maisakatuparan 'yung utos ng ating Pangulo na lahat ay dapat mabigyan," Salceda said in a virtual press briefing.

(The remaining issue here pertains to those disqualified from the program but there is a process to respond to the President's order that everyone should be covered.)

The Bicol office of the social welfare department is already attending to the appeals of families who were excluded from the initial distribution of cash aid, Salceda said.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government earlier hailed Bicol as one of the top-performing regions over the distribution of financial assistance with high payout rates.

The government aims to cover 23 million poor families in its social amelioration program which would run in 2 tranches. An initial P200-billion budget was set for the program.
