MANILA - Vice President Leni Robredo's daughters tweeted both hope and dismay after the midterm election results showed all Otso Diretso candidates were defeated in the senatorial race.

Robredo had rallied for the opposition slate throughout the 90-day campaign period, urging voters to trust and support the generally unknown candidates the same way they did for her in 2016.

The vice president's eldest daughter Aika retweeted her mom's message that read: "Pagod man tayong lahat sa kampanya at sa mahabang araw kahapon, sulit ang lahat dahil pinanindigan natin ang ating mga prinsipyo at paniniwala. May laban pa tayong hinaharap. Hindi pa tapos ang bilangan, at kailangan pang bantayan."

(Even though we are tired from the campaign and the long day that was the elections, our efforts were worth it because we stood for our principles and beliefs. We still have a battle to face. The canvassing is not yet over.)

"Always the light and the voice of reason. We soldier on. Taas noo," Aika wrote in the caption.

With opposition members outnumbered in both chambers of Congress, Aika's sister Tricia said she worried about their mother, only to be surprised by the vice president's resilience.

"Spent a substantial amount of today worrying about you as well, only to realize that I didn’t have to. Tougher times ahead but with you through and through," Tricia tweeted with a screenshot of her mom's message.

"We're made for times like this, anak," the message read.

Echoing her mother's and sister's words, Tricia wrote in a separate tweet: "Our hearts break. The fight continues. We march on."

All opposition senatorial candidates were out of the "Magic 12" as of 6:44 p.m., with 96.79 percent of votes transmitted.
