MANILA—Weeks after he was dismissed by the Ombudsman, Ciceron Cawaling was reelected as mayor of Malay town in Aklan.

Cawaling won with 16,277 votes against John Yap (12,620), and Rodgiet Ranara (1,200 votes), based on 100 percent of election returns from 48 clustered precincts.

Cawaling's running mate, Fromy Bautista, also won against Abram Sualog and Aloy Daguno.

The Ombudsman in April ordered the dismissal of Cawaling based on charges of graft, gross neglect of duty, grave misconduct, conduct unbecoming of public officials, and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of the service, charges linked to environmental problems on Boracay island.
