MANILA (UPDATED) - The Philippine flag flew at half-mast during the flag ceremony at the Quezon City Hall of Justice Tuesday as a sign of mourning over the killing of Deputy Prosecutor Rogelio Velasco last week.
The Integrated Bar of the Philippines-QC Chapter, together with fiscals and law practitioners of the Quezon City Prosecutor's League, donned black shirts with the words "Stop Killing Prosecutors" printed on it as they marched around the city hall complex to condemn the killing of Velasco.
"Sisiguraduhin namin sa inyo na hindi niyo kayang takutin ang bawat taga-usig sa Quezon City at sa buong Pilipinas," one of the men who spoke before the crowd said.
IBP-QC President Dominador Solis urged police, Congress and President Rodrigo Duterte to beef up the security of prosecutors whose lives are being put in danger in the line of service.
Quezon City Prosecutor Donald Lee also requested that service firearms be issued to fiscals and prosecutors.
Velasco was driving his red Toyota Innova when 4 unidentified gunmen on board a white Innova fired at his vehicle last Friday.
He was declared dead on arrival at the East Avenue Medical Center.
The Quezon City Police District has formed a task force to investigate the shooting.
Authorities said the shooting may be work-related. Report from Lady Vicencio, ABS-CBN News
