MANILA - Sen. Jinggoy Estrada on Monday requested the Sandiganbayan 5th Division that he be allowed to undergo a medical check-up at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center for right shoulder pains.

In the motion submitted by the lawyers of Estrada to the court, they noted that the former senator, who is detained inside the Custodial Center in Camp Crame, has been suffering from right shoulder pain since last year.

"As far back as April 2016, accused-movant was suffering from extreme pain on his right shoulder that needs immediate hospital examination and attention," Estrada's motion said.

The lawyers of Estrada also submitted a medical certification issued by Dr. Raymund Nunez noting the shoulder pains of Estrada to support the motion.

Estrada, who is facing plunder and graft charges in connection with the pork barrel scam, has also complained of similar pains in his left shoulder in 2014. It was later found out that he was suffering from a frozen left shoulder.

"With due respect to the Honorable Court and not to be interpreted as self-medical examination, accused-movant (sic) extreme pain is similar to what Dr. Tyrone Reyes have (sic) diagnosed in 2014 as calcific tendonitis which may require arthroscopic surgery if the pain continues to be extremely painful (sic)," the lawyers of Estrada said.
