MANILA -- The midterm election was a "success" despite hundreds of incidents of vote-buying, the Philippine National Police said Tuesday.
Police arrested 429 people in 210 vote-buying incidents, said PNP spokesperson Col. Bernard Banac.
The polls, he said, were peaceful even in areas earlier placed under the control of the Commission on Elections, except Cotabato City, where 2 people were arrested for attempting to bomb a security checkpoint.
"Masasabi natin na tagumpay ang halalan 2019, pero hindi pa tapos ang ating tungkulin, trabaho dito," he told DZMM.
(We can say the the 2019 election was a success, but our duty, job is here is not yet over.)
The PNP will ramp up checkpoints and operations against loose firearms and armed groups until the election period ends on June 12, he said.
