Clue: She's neither with the administration nor the opposition.

With 98.74% of election returns tallied from 236 of 239 clustered precincts, Ifugao native Joan Sheelah "Josh" O. Nalliw topped the senatorial race in her province, beating billionaire Cynthia Villar (NP) by more than 20,000 votes.

Villar was set to win the senatorial race in the May 13 midterm elections with 95% of the election returns tallied as of early Tuesday afternoon.

Nalliw is a lawyer and an advocate of indigenous peoples' (IPs) rights. She is a criminology graduate of the Baguio Colleges Foundation and once served as a prison guard in Ifugao.

She passed the Bar exams in 2013 and went home to Mayoyao, her hometown, to "serve her community."

Nalliw says she is also a "farmer by occupation having worked personally in the terraced rice fields handed down by her ancestors, experiencing what a normal farmer would experience working in the rice fields."

She is the IP Mandatory Representative to the Sangguniang Bayan of the Municipality of Mayoyao, and also a parish minister-coordinator Youth Ministry of the Our Lady of the Assumption Mission Parish.
