MANILA - Defeated Taguig City mayoral candidate Arnel Cerafica said Tuesday he would seek a manual recount in the Taguig City local race.
This after film and television director Lino Cayetano of the known Taguig political clan was proclaimed Mayor-elect earlier in the day.
Cerafica got 110,746 votes, trailing Lino Cayetano who received 174,558 votes, based on 99.14 percent of election returns from clustered precincts as of 8:22 p.m.
The mayoral bet, along with his supporters, took to the streets near the Taguig City Hall to protest the results.
"Malinaw dito 'yung election kahapon eh malawakang pandaraya ito. Kitang-kita 'yung ating mga resibo pagkabinoto 'yung ating slate hindi lumalabas, ang lumalabas 'yung kanilang pangalan," he told reporters.
(It's clear that the elections yesterday were a fraud. It could be seen in the election receipts that when you vote for our slate, the opponents' name will instead come out.)
"Mas maganda kung mabilang nang manual... Malinaw na malinaw mayroong sabwatan ang Comelec dito at mga Cayetano."
(It's better if the recount is manual. It's clear that the Comelec and Cayetanos are in cahoots.)
Arnel's brother Allan was also behind in the congressional race.
Allan got 63,279 votes, while the Mayor-elect's brother former foreign affairs secretary Alan Peter Cayetano had 91,630 votes so far in the race for representative of Taguig's first district.
His wife Lani is leading the race for representative in the city's second district with 112,535, ahead of contender Che-che Gonzales, with 41,763 votes.
ABS-CBN News is reaching out to Cayetano for comment.
