Two unidentified men set fire to a vote counting machine in Jones municipality in Isabela province Tuesday morning.

This was confirmed by election officer Darius Perdines when the Board of Canvassers convened at 7 a.m.

Perdines said the VCM for Barangay Dicamay I was being delivered to the municipal hall onboard a dump truck when it was waylaid by two armed men around 6 a.m.

The suspects took the truck’s key and torched the VCM before escaping.

Only the barangays of Dicamay I and Dicamay II have yet to transmit results to Jones due to poor signal.

The town of Jones is the only area in Region II under the red hotspot category due to intense political rivalry.

The town has 42 barangays with 30,263 registered voters of which 762 are voters from Dicamay I.

The incumbent mayor Leticia Sebastian and businesswoman Melanie Uy are both vying for the mayoralty post in the town.
