Structures in Barangay Balas were buried 30 feet under lahar when Mt. Pinatubo erupted in 1991. Residents of the village were relocated to the towns of San Isidro, Magalang, Mabalacat and San Fernando.

But after nearly three decades, local officials were finally able to build a new barangay hall. Thus, on Monday, residents in resettlement sites were able to cast their votes in their once buried village.

Over 1,000 people cast their ballots in Barangay Balas, authorities said. Voting started at 7:00 a.m. and was closed at 3:00 p.m. -- report from Leddy Tantoco for ABS-CBN News
