MANILA - No barangay declared a failure of election in the 2018 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) polls, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said an hour after voting precincts closed Monday.
This means all barangays successfully held the elections, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez told reporters.
"If you noticed, most of the problems were surrounding the elections - vote-buying, violence - but not the election itself," he said.
The Comelec earlier said all polling precincts opened promptly Monday morning for the manual vote, with a few experiencing delays due to the late arrival of election officials and signal problems.
Data from the Comelec showed 78 million voters registered for the village and youth elections, which finally pushed through after several postponements. Some 1 million barangay and SK candidates are gunning for 671,000 village posts.
