MANILA - Two "persons of interest" in the killing of former La Union representative Eufranio Eriguel have been taken under police custody, a police official said Monday.
Chief Supt. John Bulalacao, spokesman of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said they still have to determine the possible involvement of the two individuals in the incident.
"The regional director of Region 1 has not submitted the updates on his investigation. Wala pa namang na-identify, although he mentioned to the chief PNP that he already has 2 persons of interest kaya lang wala pa tayong arrest made," he told ABS-CBN News.
Eriguel was shot dead while giving a speech during a miting de avance on Saturday night. His two civilians bodyguards were also killed.
Eriguel's wife Sandra, incumbent representative of La Union's second district, was shot, but survived the attack.
Investigation is ongoing, police said.
"Wala pa kasing nakapagbigay ng statement. Wala pang na-identify based on evidence kaya up to now the case is being investigated," Bulalacao said.
The Eriguel family has sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). - report from Maan Macapagal, ABS-CBN News
