ZAMBOANGA SIBUGAY- Two New People's Army (NPA) rebels were killed while two civilian volunteers were hurt after a brief firefight with government forces in Sitio Malagak, Barangay Guinoman in the town of Diplahan on Saturday afternoon.
Captain Jo-ann Petinglay, spokesperson of Western Mindanao Command, said soldiers of the 44th Infantry Battalion encountered around 30 communist rebels.
The military also identified two other leaders of the NPA as a certain "Tibo" and "Henry."
Two high-powered firearms were also recovered near the area, where the bodies of killed rebels were found.
The military claimed that there were visible bloodstains in the area where the rebels positioned themselves during the gunfight, which is an indication that there could be more rebels hurt.
In Sultan Kudarat, government forces also encountered another group of NPA rebels, which resulted in the recovery of an M16 rifle and four improvised explosive devices.
