MANILA - Opposition senatorial bet Mar Roxas on Monday morning was the first senatorial candidate to cast his vote for the midterm elections that coincided with his 62nd birthday.

The former interior and trade secretary, a member of opposition slate Otso Diretso, was among the first to vote in his polling precinct in Conrado Barrios Memorial Elementary School in Baybay, Roxas City just minutes after the voting started at 6 a.m.

Roxas topped the 2004 senatorial election but was ranked 16-17 in Pulse Asia's May 3-6 survey.
