MANILA - Malacañang vows to bring justice to the family of slain former La Union Representative Eufranio Eriguel.
"We strongly denounce the killing of ex-La Union Rep. Eufranio Eriguel," Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.
"Investigators are now gathering evidence as we vow to bring justice to the slain congressman and his bereaved family," he added.
Roque also called on the public to support the government in ensuring that Monday's Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections will be peaceful and orderly.
"Political violence has no place in society. We thus call on everyone’s support, cooperation and vigilance to ensure that tomorrow’s Barangay and Sanggunian Kabataan elections will be free, honest, orderly, and generally peaceful," he said on Sunday.
Eriguel was shot dead in Barangay Capas, Agoo in La Union Saturday.
According to one of the emergency personnel who first arrived at the scene, Eriguel was attending a general assembly of candidates running for barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
Eriguel was gunned down as he was speaking.
