MANILA- Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa on Friday welcomed military chief of staff, General Eduardo Año as the next Interior and Local Government Chief.
Dela Rosa said he was "very happy" with the announcement that Año was set to take over the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
"We are very happy because he is one of our kind so alam namin yung level ng disiplina niya, level of competency niya at level of dedication niya sa trabaho. We are very happy to have [him] as
secretary of DILG," Dela Rosa told reporters.
President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday said he will appoint Año as DILG chief during his departure speech at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
Año will replace officer-in-charge Catalino Cuy, who took over after Ismael Sueno was removed from the post.
Dela Rosa said Año can help craft policies that aim to discipline of the police force.
"He can contribute to the discipline, in coming up with the policies makapag-discipline sa ating kapulisan," he said.
Asked whether tapping a military man was necessary to instill discipline in the police force, Dela Rosa said he could not question the President's decision and assured that the PNP can work with anyone.
"Basta pinili ng Presidente, we can deal with him, we can work with him and we are not here to question, we are here to follow the wisdom of the President," he said.
