MANILA- Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa clarified Friday that while he was interested in politics, he would rather focus on his career as top cop.
Dela Rosa said he was looking forward to a "proper retirement," as he urged the public not to take his remarks seriously.
“But please ha, klaruhin ko ito, as of now wala yan sa aking plano, wala yan sa aking pangarap, wala yan sa aking ‘kwan. Ang pinakaplano, immediate plan ko ngayon is makapag-retire come Jan. 21, 2019. Makapag-retire properly, maayos at healthy pa rin,” he said.
(That (Senate run) is not part of my plan or dreams. My immediate plan right now is to retire on Jan. 21, 2019 properly and still healthy.)

In an interview with DZMM on Thursday, the PNP chief said he was open to the idea of running for senator.
“Hindi po ako plastic na tao. Sino bang hindi gustong maging senador? Pero hindi ko sinasabi agad directly na ako’y tatakbo. 'Yung akin lang, maganda 'po yan, makakatulong pa ako sa bayan. Why not?” Dela Rosa said.
(I am not plastic, Who doesn't want to be a senator? But I am not directly saying that I will run. For me, it's just, that is good. I can help the country.)
“Alam mo naman ako good follower ako eh. ‘Pag sinabi niyang run, eh di run. ‘Pag sinabi niyang walk, walk. Sabi niya jump, jump din ako. I follow orders,” he said, referring to President Rodrigo Duterte.
"Sabihin ni presidente..how am I to…ang laki ng utang na loob ko sa kanya. He has been my boss since nung paggraduate ko PMA, siya na tinitingala ko, kaya kung sabihin niya magtrabaho ka, tatanggapin ko na magtrabaho ako," Dela Rosa added.
