MANILA - The lawyer of Janet Lim Napoles has met with Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II to discuss the possibility of the alleged pork barrel scam mastermind to become a state witness.
Napoles' counsel Stephen David on Thursday said they have begun "exploratory talks" with Aguirre as Napoles expressed readiness to name more personalities involved in the multi-billion peso scam.
David said these personalities include officials who are allies of the previous administration whose names Napoles withheld before. He added that these officials are "higher" than lawmakers.
The lawyer added that talks with the Aquino administration on the possibility of Napoles becoming a state witness did not prosper because administration allies also suspected to be involved in the scam might be affected.
He said Napoles vowed to tell the "whole truth."
This development in the pork barrel scam comes after the acquittal of Napoles in a serious illegal detention case filed by whistleblower Benhur Luy.
Secretary Aguirre earlier said the government is looking at the possibility of turning Napoles into a state witness as they plan to reopen the investigation on the pork barrel scam.
