SURIGAO DEL NORTE—The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency has declared all nine barangays in a town in Surigao del Norte drug-free, confirming the absence of drug-related activity in the area.
Tubod is the first municipality in the Caraga Region to have all its barangays declared drug-free by the PDEA oversight committee.
Ricardo Quinto, deputy director general for PDEA operations, led the declaration of Barangays Cawilan, Capayahan, San Pablo, Marga, San Isidro, Del Rosario, Motorpool, Timamana and Poblacion on Thursday.
"Surveillance confirms non-availability of dangerous drugs in Tubod because of the non-presence of [a] drug pusher, drug den and drug manufacturing in 9 barangays," said Dindo Abellanosa, PDEA information officer.
Of the five provinces in Caraga, Surigao del Norte has the highest number of watch-listed drug personalities at 4,944, per data from the Police Regional Office 13.
Meanwhile, 284 of the 335 barangays in the province are drug-affected.
