Duterte OKs higher pensions for disabled workers

MANILA—President Rodrigo Duterte has signed an executive order increasing the monthly pension of disabled workers.

Duterte signed EO No. 54 on Tuesday providing a P1,150 across-the-board increase in the employees’ compensation for permanently disabled pensioners in the private sector and qualified beneficiaries in the public sector.

The increase is effective from January 2017.

The EO also orders the Social Security System’s (SSS) continued distribution of at least P2,000 in monthly disability and survivorship pension in the private sector.

For the beneficiaries of deceased pensioners, the EO states that the SSS shall continue to grant them 80% to 100% of the pensioners’ monthly benefits.

Carers’ allowance in the public and private sectors shall also be increased from P575 to P1,000.

Meanwhile, the amount of reimbursement for professional fees of physicians under the employees’ compensation medical benefits in the private sector has also been increased from P100 for a general practitioner and P150 for a specialist during the initial visit to:

Reimbursement rates for physical therapy sessions, meanwhile, were also increased from P65 per session to a maximum of P500 per session.

The temporary total disability (TTD) benefits for the private sector has also been increased from a minimum daily income of P10 to P110 and from a maximum daily income benefit of P200 to P480. A TTD benefit is given for a disability that prevents an employee from performing his work for a continuous period not exceeding 120 days.
