2 suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits slain in Sulu

ZAMBOANGA CITY - Two suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits were killed in an encounter with military forces in Parang, Sulu on Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities identified the fatalities as Abrajir Jamsuri and Jurham Sadjail. They were allegedly supporters of Apo Mike, an Abu Sayyaf sub-commander operating in the area.

Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of Joint Task Force Sulu, said the firefight also left several bandits reportedly wounded.

Recovered from the fatalities were four high-powered firearms, including an R4 assault rifle and a M203 grenade launcher.

Sobejana said they were conducting search and rescue operations for two abducted policewomen when the troops of 4th Special Forces Battalion encountered gunmen in the village of Lagasan.

The hostages - PO2 Benierose Alvarez and PO1 Dinah Gumahad - remained with the Abu Sayyaf. - report from RJ Rosalado, ABS-CBN News
