SURIGAO CITY – A 33-year-old man suspected to have COVID-19 died in a hospital in Caraga, a health official said Friday.
The patient was admitted in the Caraga Regional Hospital on May 7 due to fever and respiratory distress but died 14 hours later, the hospital’s chief Dr. Cheryl Gotinga said in a statement.
The fatality, who was from Surigao City, Surigao del Norte, had no history of travel or exposure to COVID-19, she added.
The swab test result of the patient is pending.
“With these developments, let us all continue to be vigilant and practice all measures that would best protect ourselves from the disease,” Gotinga said.
To date, the region has recorded 3 COVID-19 infections. One has recovered from the disease while another one is undergoing home quarantine.
The other patient, a 65-year-old man, is admitted in the Caraga Regional Hospital and is now in stable condition. - Report from Lorilly Charmane Awitan, ABS-CBN News
