MANILA -- The mayor of Lingig town in Surigao Del Sur was arrested Thursday after firearms, explosives, and drugs were seized from his residence, police said.
Linging Mayor Roberto M. Luna Jr. was arrested by authorities in Barangay Poblacion around 3:20 a.m., according to a police report.
Luna yielded a Colt caliber .45 pistol, magazine loaded with caliber. 9mm ammunition, magazines of caliber .45 pistol and KG9, rifle grenade, and dried leaves and stalks of marijuana.
Authorities also seized P2 million cash believed to have been used in vote-buying as the P100 bills were placed in white envelopes with sample ballots, said Police Regional Office 13 chief Police Brig. Gen. Gilberto Cruz.
Luna will face charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002), violation of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), and violation of RA 9516 (illegal possession of explosive).
