MANILA - Bureau of Corrections chief Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa on Wednesday admitted wearing original True Religion jeans when he visited the New Bilibid Prison over the weekend.
Sharp-eyed social media users were quick to notice the brand of pants that the former national police chief wore, as an original pair of True Religion jeans is priced at around P25,000, based on its website.
But Dela Rosa told ANC that his pants, although original, was worth only P5,000. He said it was a gift from his younger brother, who works as a police in Las Vegas.
"Yung suot ko na 'yun original 'yun. Hindi 'yun fake. Hindi ko binili, bigay ng aking kapatid na pulis sa Las Vegas... 'Yung bahay niya malapit lang sa outlet. Less than $100 lang 'yun o $100 so more or less P5,000 lang 'yun," the Davao-born official said.
(The one I wore was original. I did not buy it. My brother who is a police officer in Las Vegas gave it to me. He lives beside an outlet. It only costs less than $100.)
Dela Rosa said he has a lot of True Religion jeans at home but he only bought those pairs at Greenhills Shopping Center.
Asked if his 'probinsiyano' lifestyle has changed after his stint as PNP chief, Dela Rosa said: "Relo ko o, plastik pa rin o. Luma pa rin."
"Sayang kasi kung hindi ko suotin, bigay ng kapatid ko 'yun e," he added, referring to his original True Religion Jeans. (I had to wear it, it was given by my brother.)
