MANILA (UPDATE) - President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed former House Speaker Jose De Venecia Jr. to a post at the Department of Foreign Affairs.

The Palace said on Wednesday that De Venecia was appointed Special Envoy of the President to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

Malacañang issued an erratum to the previous announcement of the DFA that De Venecia was appointed Special Envoy for Inter-Cultural Dialogue.

De Venecia recently attended the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, China, where he pitched for joint explorations by China and other Southeast Asian claimants in the disputed South China Sea.
