MANILA - Metro Manila police operatives on Monday afternoon arrested a suspected member of the Islamic State-linked Maute terror group in Cubao, Quezon City.
The suspect was identified as Unday Macadato, an alleged terrorist sniper who escaped to Manila amid the terror group's 5-month siege of Marawi City.
The National Capital Region Police Office said a concerned citizen sent a text message to authorities complaining about the suspect threatening bystanders and his neighbors with his firearm.
Police quickly responded to the tip and arrested Macadato on Felix Manalo Street around 4:55 p.m. Initial investigation found that he is among terrorists listed in Martial Law Instruction No. 1.
The order was issued after President Rodrigo Duterte placed Mindanao under martial rule on May 23, 2017, when the Marawi siege erupted.
The suspect is facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives. -- with a report from Raffy Santos, ABS-CBN News
