MANILA - The Department of Education (DepEd) is set to release in June a cash allowance for teachers worth P3,500.

The allowance will be used by classroom teachers to purchase teaching supplies and materials for the upcoming school year, according to a department memorandum dated May 4 and signed by Undersecretary for Finance Annalyn Sevilla.

The DepEd Central Office, according to the memorandum, will also release "separate policy guidelines" that will allow teachers to use the allowance on "teaching supplies and materials related to the preparations to shift to the Learning Continuity Plan (LCP)."

The LCP is set of guidelines crafted in response to the coronavirus pandemic. It details adjustments to the K-12 curriculum, the various modes of learning that schools will implement next school year, and homeschooling training for teachers, parents and guardians.

The DepEd earlier said public school teachers will begin working in June to prepare for the upcoming school year, which is scheduled to open on Aug. 24.
