MANILA - A cargo vessel sank in the waters off Talisay City in Cebu on Sunday morning, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.
Cebu Coast Guard Station Commander Dionilett Ampil said there were no casualties reported as all 22 crew members of M/V Fortuner were rescued immediately by its sister shipping company.
Ampil said that the vessel, which was carrying steel bars, sank after it suffered a crack in the middle. The official did not mention, however, the cause of the crack.
Ampil also confirmed that at least two liters of oil were spilled because of the sinking, but he said that this would not affect the marine protected area.
He added that the Cebu coast guard will continue to monitor the area.
