MANILA - Authorities arrested an employee of media outlet GMA-7 who swallowed a sachet of suspected shabu after they stopped him at a checkpoint in Quezon City on Monday, police said.
Baron Giovani Belison, field production assistant of GMA 7 News and Public Affairs, was on board a Nissan Frontier with markings of the media outlet's radio station DZBB when authorities saw him arguing with another male motorist in front of a bank in Aurora Boulevard, said Quezon City Police District.
Belison, 36, revved up his vehicle and tried to escape when policemen approached them. Checkpoint officers blocked him, said the QCPD.
Policemen asked Belison to show his driver's license and saw 2 transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu in his possession. The suspect swallowed one sachet while policemen grabbed the other packet with around 0.2 grams of shabu, said investigators.
The suspect is facing cases of reckless driving and violation of the Dangerous Drug Act, police said.
Belison denied that the drugs were his, despite his former use of narcotics, according to a DZBB tweet.
The radio station said the suspect was not its employee, adding that he belonged to a "third-party supplier."
