MANILA (UPDATE) — As Philippine Cabinet and Central Bank officials gathered in Nadi, Fiji for an annual Asian Development Bank (ADB) meeting, President Rodrigo Duterte was getting updates from his bed in Davao — while watching Netflix.
In a photo provided by Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, Duterte was seen in his bed watching "Django Unchained" through streaming service provider Netflix.
Puyat was part of the Philippine delegation at the 52nd annual meeting of the ADB Board of Governors to discuss pressing development issues in the Asia-Pacific.
Puyat was in the middle of an interview when Duterte called her, according to a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
When asked what they discussed during the phone call, Puyat told ABS-CBN News that Duterte was actually asking her about updates on Boracay.
"He was following up on my meeting with the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) regarding the carrying capacity of Boracay. He just wants to ensure that his directive was followed," she said.
After beach paradise Boracay was reopened in October from a 6-month rehabilitation closure, the Department of Tourism limited visitors to 19,000 a day on top of 15,000 workers to keep to its 55,000 carrying capacity.
However, Puyat added that she likewise gave the President updates regarding here panel discussion at the ADB meeting.
"[Our topic] was more of CAB but I did tell him about my panel discussion here in Fiji and that the buzz word was Boracay."
The ADB meet will conclude on Sunday.
