MANILA - More testing laboratories for the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) will be set up in Zamboanga City, the National Task Force on COVID-19 said Sunday.

Presidential Peace Adviser and National Action Plan (NAP) against COVID-19 Chief Implementer Carlito G. Galvez, Jr. visited Zamboanga City on Saturday to inspect 3 proposed testing laboratories.

According to Galvez, this is part of the government's move to ramp up its capacity to "trace, test and treat" COVID-19 patients by setting up more testing centers all over the country.

Galvez also said the national government is fast-tracking the testing laboratories at the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) and the Department of Agriculture PCR laboratory.

The Philippine Red Cross, on the other hand, will also be setting up its own laboratory in Zamboanga.

These laboratories will cater to patients from the Zamboanga peninsula, as well as the island provinces of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-tawi.
