MANILA - Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Thursday apologized to Senate President Aquilino Pimentel for releasing information that the latter was set to be replaced by Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto - a claim that the two Senate leaders denied.
"An apology is in order and is therefore offered to (Senate President) Pimentel. It was my understanding that a leadership change in the Senate between him and Sen. Sotto does exist," Lacson said in a statement.
Lacson, a member of the Senate majority, earlier claimed that the two Senate leaders had already reached an agreement, which both senators denied.
"No agreement. But will talk to Sen. Sotto immediately upon arrival. Then hold majo(rity) caucus," Pimentel said.
"There is no agreement between Koko (Pimentel) and I. Leadership is agreed upon by the majority of our colleagues," Sotto told ABS-CBN News.
Pimentel was elected Senate leader in 2016 at the start of the 17th Congress and will seek a re-election in 2019.
