MANILA – An 11-month-old baby who was suspected to have caught the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has died in Zamboanga del Sur, a local official said Wednesday.

The infant is the eighth suspected COVID-19 fatality in the province.

The patient was brought to the Margosatubig Regional Hospital on April 27 due to breathing difficulty, cough, and diarrhea but died few hours later.

The patient died from pediatric community-acquired pneumonia with severe acute gastroenteritis.

The baby’s parents who reside in Pitogo town have no travel history. The patient’s test results for possible coronavirus infection have yet to be released.
