MANILA - A Filipino accused of killing his own father was brought back to the country from the United Arab Emirates Sunday after 5 years in hiding, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday.
PNP chief, Director General Oscar Albayalde said suspect Nelson Antonio left the country in December 2013 after admitting that he killed his father, businessman Antonio P. Antonio.
Albayalde said Antonio, who was arrested with the help of information from an overseas Filipino worker in the Middle East, will be presented before the Parañaque court which ordered his arrest.
Senior Supt. Albert Ignatius Ferro, chief of the PNP Drug Enforcement Group, said the OFW informant recognized the suspect after watching an episode of ABS-CBN's SOCO.
"'Yung year-end report ng SOCO by our friend Gus Abelgas aired their episode, a concerned Filipino citizen na nasa Middle East wrote me because nakita 'yung mukha ko doon. He told me na nakita niya itong subject na ito," he said.
Ferro said he immediately coordinated with the police attache in the UAE in January until Antonio was nabbed last February 16 with the help of the local law enforcement units there.
