MANILA -- The government's inter-agency task force on COVID-19 will be the sole authority for decisions on community quarantines at the regional and provincial levels.
Starting May 16, only the IATF can decide on the imposition, lifting or extension of community quarantines in provinces, highly-urbanized cities, and independent component cities.
The policy is based on the latest resolution of the IATF, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said on Tuesday.
Provincial governors, however, will be authorized to impose enhanced community quarantine in component cities, municipalities, and barangays upon the concurrence of their respective regional inter-agency task groups.
Mayors of highly-urbanized cities, and independent component cities are also authorized to impose enhanced community quarantine in barangays upon the concurrence of their respective regional inter-agency task groups.
"No LGU shall declare their own community quarantine regardless of nomenclature without observing the foregoing procedure," Roque said.
The IATF on Tuesday limited the extension of the enhanced community quarantine to the following areas until May 15:
- Metro Manila
- Central Luzon, except the province of Aurora
- Southern Tagalog Region (Calabarzon)
- Pangasinan province
- Benguet province
- Baguio City
- Iloilo province
- Cebu province
- Cebu City
- Davao City
