MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte is offering a P20-million reward to any Filipino who could develop a respirator for coronavirus patients, Malacañang said Tuesday.

The respirators should "outlast" the lives of the patients, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said.

"Nagbigay din po ng pabuya ang ating Presidente, P20 million para sa sino mang Pilipino na makakabuo ng local respirator," Roque said in a virtual press briefing.

The offer was made due to a shortage of respirators, Roque added.

Duterte earlier promised to give P50 million in reward money to any Filipino who could discover a vaccine for COVID-19.

The Philippines as of Monday has a cumulative 7,777 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 511 deaths and 932 recoveries.
