MANILA - Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco said Sunday he would donate his salary until the end of his term in June 2022 to provide cash assistance to his constituents who did not get any aid from the national government's social amelioration program of SAP.
Tiangco said it would be up to the city social welfare department to divide his salary, which amounts to some P3.29 million or P121,918.88 per month, among Navotas residents.
President Rodrigo Duterte, members of his Cabinet, lawmakers, and other local officials have also pledged a portion of their salaries as aid in the country's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
As of Saturday, Navotas has recorded 28 cases of the novel coronavirus, according to the Department of Health.
