DAVAO CITY—Ateneo de Davao University is lending computer tablets with electronic pencils to its student-scholars, so they can attend online classes.

A total of 155 units were made available for the students, who can use the gadgets until they graduate.

At least 10 tablets were delivered to scholars at their homes on Friday, while 145 units will come in next week.

Most of the recipients cannot afford to pay for computer or laptop loans that the university is offering to its students.

Besides the tables, Ateneo is providing home WiFi devices with standard load package to its students to get them connected online.

According to Bong Eliab, the university's vice president for administration, the WiFi units can be kept by their students when they graduate.

Ateneo de Davao is the first university in the Philippines to offer full online classes for undergraduate and graduate programs this time of the year, after a lockdown was implemented in places throughout the country due to the COVID-19 crisis.
