MANILA - One of the Philippines' tourist destinations will be sporting a new name soon, after the House Committee on Local Government approved a bill seeking to rename Panglao Island in Bohol.
Under House Bill 6241, Panglao Island will be renamed Dauis-Panglao Island.
Representative Rene Relampagos, who authored HB 6241, said the proposal to rename Panglao Island is to "correct geographical misrepresentation" and to give due recognition to the municipality of Dauis.
According to Relampagos, Panglao Island is composed of the municipalities of Dauis and Panglao.
Dauis is one of the oldest towns in Bohol, while Panglao is a major tourism destination in the province.
“For the longest time, the island over which these two municipalities are found is referred to as Panglao Island,” he said.
