MANILA - Catholic churches in Pampanga affected by Monday's earthquake will temporarily stop holding Mass until after structural assessments are done.
"Wala munang misa mga affected churches until matapos ang assessment na safe na," said Archbishop Florentino Lavarias.
The magnitude 6.1 earthquake that struck Castillejos in Zambales on Monday also caused damage to roads and other infrastructures in Pampanga, including churches.
One of the most heavily damaged was the Saint Catherine Parish Church in Porac. During Monday's quake, its bell tower collapsed while the head of one of the statues of saints located by the church's entrance is also gone.
Meanwhile, reports of cracks were also seen in the Sta. Monica Parish Church and convent in Minalin also in Pampanga.
According to the church's Facebook page, they are still waiting for the Archdiocesan Commission on Cultural Heritage to assess the church's current state.
Parishioners are advised from going near the church perimeter as the situation remains dangerous.
