Fifty-three coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases have been recorded in the Western Visayas region as of Tuesday, after one new patient was confirmed in Negros Occidental, according to health authorities.
The patient was identified as a 42-year-old man from La Castellana town. He may have contracted the disease from two close contacts from Pavia, Iloilo, officials said.
The Department of Health-Region 6 said in a press briefing Tuesday that of the 53 cases, 4 are medical workers including 2 doctors.
Of the 53, 23 were confirmed infected with COVID-19 after contact tracing.
Health authorities are continuing their contact tracing for more possible COVID-19 patients.
